Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia has not changed much recently. Actually, it is much the same as it was over one hundred thirty million years ago, give or take an eon, and minus the titanic ancestors to today’s smaller reptilian and amphibious life. Home to more than three thousand distinct plant species, Daintree is often referred to as “the land that time forgot.” As the largest continuous rainforest on the Australian continent, Daintree Rainforest is an awesome spectacle to behold.

Touring Daintree by boat provides opportunities to cruise the Daintree River, a secluded waterway rich in local plant and animal life, including many, many crocodiles.

Daintree Rainforest is a pure, protected, naturally-occurring ecosystem, and continues to thrive with the stewardship of its caretakers. Listed as a World Heritage site, the ancient rainforest is a marvel, and provides visitors with an idea of what life was like on planet Earth, over one hundred million years ago.

Australiaâ??s Green Cauldron boasts a variety of hiking excursions listed as World Heritage areas. The trails running through the lush rainforests of the Border Ranges, Nightcap, and Wollumbin National Parks are a challenge for any skilled hiker. Shorter trails are available for nature enthusiasts looking for a leisurely hike through the rainforests.

The three longer walking trails consist of the Wollumbin Mt Warning Summit Track, Booyong Walk, and Nightcap Track. All three have been recently upgraded. Nightcap Track is now an overnight hike and follows the historic imprints of postal workers of the 19th century. Booyong Walk, named after the local trees which dominate the forests, is a short trek and delightful tour of rarely sighted fruit doves. Hikers who wish to explore the Wollumbin Mt Warning Summit should be respectful of local Aboriginal people, as they prefer people to take different paths due to the cultural significance of the area.

Australiaâ??s Green Cauldron is home to the Caldera Art Exhibition, established by local wildlife artist Andy Reimanis. The exhibition promotes cultural and environmental awareness of the Mt Warning Wollumbin Caldera.
The 2011 exhibitions will take place in September, October and November at several different venues including the Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music and Canungra Vineyards and The Centre.
